Antigua Chronicles..

Antigua & Barbuda is one of the major Caribbean Islands, a twin island paradise. This was the perfect Caribbean escape for me as I had never visited the Caribbeans. Visiting Antigua, I was not sure what to expect, but I knew for sure there were going to be palm trees; white soft sandy beaches, 365 beaches, each beach for each day of the year; and cystalized turquoise water, that was all I needed and that I got and much more. I visited Antigua January 2019. Living in Toronto which gets very cold during the winter months and visiting this paradise was the perfect time to escape to somewhere with lots and lots of sunshine, beaches and yacht!!! Since I have a US visa, my travel was easy. All I had to do was pay $100 USD at the airport on arrival and I was granted a visa on arrival. What’s most attractive about this twin island country is that it’s passport takes you to 149 countries around the world visa free. With this passport, you do not need visas to the United Kingdom, Europe, Hong kong and many more countries. Save yourself the hassle of applying for a visa and the passport. The island is so beautiful…. The people are very warm and welcoming. It’s currency is pegged to the United States $$$$. All are welcome. Right from the airport I felt peace, joy and tranquility. On my way to my luxury apartment, I stock my head out and kept smiling feeling the cool island breeze while the music was playing in the car. Explore With Kevs organized my luxury airport pick up and drop-off at my luxury villa, “Tamarind Hills Antigua”. It was just right in front of the ocean! Oh my…. It felt like I was in paradise. I came down from the car and went straight to the beach. It took a while and I realized I had to take my luggage in haha..

Celebrities and business tycoons that own homes in Antigua & Barbuda

As a young North-American entrepreneur with African heritage, some of the reasons I like traveling and exploring new places is to learn about different countries, the people, their history, their culture, their philosophy and possibly look out for business opportunities. While exploring Antigua and Barbuda, I learned a lot about the country’s history. The most emotional part of my trip was learning about the slave trade. I felt goosebumps as our tour guide was giving us a piece of their history. Another interesting thing I got to know was that a couple of celebrities and business tycoons own homes in Antigua and Barbuda. Of course! It is a beautiful island, getting a home there would be perfect! Celebrities and business tycoons like Oprah Winfrey, Eric Clapton, Giorgio Armani, Allen Stanford, Silvio Berlusconi and others own homes in Antigua and Barbuda.

Best time to Visit Antigua & Barbuda and things to do

The twin paradise island is tropical in nature, so from time to time, the rain can shower a bit. But before you know it, it is bright again. From my knowledge and expereince, the best time to visit Antigua and Barbuda is between November to April, when other western countries are experiencing winter, as the weather is perfect not too harsh and all the mega and super yacht are having a ball. But in general, the weather is warm all year. There’s a lot of things to do like sight seeing, relaxing and enjoying the beaches, taking a hike, going on cruise and many more fun activities. Personally, I enjoyed the hopping from one beach to another. My only worry was how much sunscreen I had to apply hahaha!

Things to note

  1. First thing first, it is pronounced Anti-ga (Antee-gah), not Anti-gwa (Anti-guah)
  2. US Dollars is acceptable but take note of the exchange rate (US $1 = ECD $2.70)
  3. Everyone speaks English
  4. The twin island is safe, crime rate very low
  5. Best way to get around is to rent a car or take a taxi
  6. Plastic bags are banned. Yup lol! (The environment comes first)
  7. Take lots and lots of sunscreen and beach wears! The beaches are beautiful!
